* Philip NEWMAN *

Philip Newman studied photography at Richmond College, Sheffield in the 1980s.  It has since remained a passion in which he has slowly developed his technique and style.  His others passions are creative writing and acoustic guitar - his life outlook being that creativity is central to human consciousness and existence.

In the 1990s Philip Newman studied sociology and anthropology at Oxford Brookes University, an intellectual interlude developing a new passion.  The anthropological approach of understanding 'others' through questioning, listening, empathy and intuition, along with a sound theoretical base, is an approach he now tries to implement as an English language teacher in the South of France.

Having lived and worked in a number of countries, within a range of professions, Philip Newman's background and varied interests manifest themselves through his photography.

'Communing with nature', objectively and subjectively,  to heighten awareness of beauty and soul, and to capture 'intrinsic essence' of existence - is his goal.  It's a meditative 'zen' approach in which results are as much about developing photographic technique as they are about developing 'self'.  The road may be as long as life itself, but journeying along that road is the essential.
