Historical reconstruction festival, Martigues

The King of the Blues

B.B.King.  Such a powerful singer. This was in 1985. Unforgettable!
Pétanque competition

A thousand spectators watch a hundred players whittle down to  a remaining few. Outside wet and windy, inside all eyes glued to the hard, uneven ground.  Taken as serious as English bowling, if not more, but it's different. Totally part of the culture down here.

The Boy with no name - literally!

Romanian Orphanage, 1990.  Sorrow.

Senegalese Girl

A twinkle in her eyes and adorned in colour.  Beauty.

Wedding Day blues.

Bride's lift to the church was late.

Factory Worker
Taken in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1981. A smelly plastics factory, largely employing foreign workers with whom I lived in quite unimaginably, squalid conditions.  Extremely memorable experience, though, and I'm glad I did.

Motocross

Dusty, noisy, fun!

Kids Fishing

Those were the days - they still are for some!

Venice Carnival
The Venice carnival comes to Martigues every August.  Gorgeous, colourful costumes.  Whilst behind the masks, who is really observing who?

Street singer

St Maries de la mer, in the Camargue, hold a festival every year for St. Sarah, patron saint of Gypsy people.  On the streets their music rings out throughout the day and night.

Contemplation
Something on his mind and searching the beer for an answer?  Perhaps, or just tired after an all-night drive.  Hard to say, but the picture reminds me of places and states I've known. Not suprising, since this is an old friend.

Ibra

He much preferred the water to his wheelchair.
